To create a contemporary outdoor living space that maximised the potential of a sloping site and provide plenty of entertaining space.

Care was to be taken to incorporate an existing Laburnum tree and tie in with the side gate..

Garden Condition:

A tiny paved terrace at the rear of the house dropped down onto a sloping shrubbery that in turn led to the main lawn. At the side of the house a gate led through from the driveway to the garden with some very unstable steps leading down to the main garden.

Finished Garden:

By creating a split level deck we were able to maximise entertainment areas and fully utilise the opportunities provided by a sloping site.

The main deck was built around the rear of the house with contemporary balustrade acting as a feature as well as for safety. By incorporating decked paths the laburnum tree became a key focal point in the garden with people having to walk around and under its branches to reach the lower levels of the garden.

Through rebuilding the stones steps and utilising stones found on site to create a large planting area we were able to soften the impact of the deck with structured planting, thus creating an extremely pleasant area to sit out in and enjoy a cold drink or two!
